Inspired by the iconic original, KPM's chief designer Thomas Wenzel created a contemporary adaptation of the Sandman to mark the 65th anniversary. The result is a strictly limited special edition porcelain figurine with a pointed cap and goatee.

The Sandman Is So Green: As a nature lover and animal friend, the Berlin State Porcelain Factory ( Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur ) is now presenting the legendary character—created 67 years ago by Gerhard Behrendt—in shades of Berlin green. The elegant luster finish pays homage to the capital’s green spaces—from the Köpenick Forest to the Tiergarten and on to the Grunewald. This marks the fourth collaborative edition between KPM Berlin and rbb media.
To mark its 65th anniversary, KPM collaborated with rbb media to create UNSER SANDMÄNNCHEN—a porcelain figurine given a modern interpretation by KPM’s chief designer, Thomas Wenzel, and handcrafted at the historic KPM factory in Tiergarten. The distinctive luster glaze is applied by hand in the master painting workshop at KPM Berlin.
